Much ado at The Farm Shop
It’s all happening at The Farm Shop, Gordonton’s one-stop shop for local, fresh produce.
Recent observant callers will have noticed construction going on – a deck of ‘significant proportions’ is being built, says Colin Oliver.
“Our landlord has been very kind and said that with the custom we’re bringing to the block, and Gordonton, he’d build a deck for us.”
The shop opened at high noon on Saturday 4 May, and owners Colin, Gemma McGarry, Tanya Clancy and Kevin Clarke have been busy ever since.
“Our week days have become as good as our weekends, we get a lot of people travelling through, and our locals as well. People love it, the feedback we get is just amazing.”
The deck and ramp – which were being worked on when N8N called last Friday – makes access easier and allows more space.
“It’s a huge change to the shop, we’ve got our micro greens out there now (great in salads, sandwiches and smoothies) and daffodils and tulips from Clandon. We’ll probably have punnets of veges there too, as well as citrus trees. It will be a working space.”
The other big news is the arrival of Angus Pure beef, which, says Colin, is lean, well marbled and utterly wonderful.
“I tried some steak the other night, with not even a grind of pepper, to get the full taste. It’s fabulous,” says Colin, who likes it medium rare.
At this point in the proceedings Doris and John come up to the counter with their purchases.
The retired couple makes a special trip every week from Dinsdale to do their shopping. They love the fresh produce on offer and when asked, the smell of the place.
“It’s just lovely, the fresh bread, vegetables, flowers…” Doris says.
And that is what the Farm Shop is all about.
As Colin, Gemma, Tanya and Kevin say – “you can’t buy happiness, but you can buy local. And that’s kind of the same thing.”
Great story and pics

Looking fantastic Tanya;) A shop full of fresh locally produced veg and a huge array of tempting treats. We love it.
Loved reading the article above and as I’m new to Hamilton area from Christchurch I was wondering ……do I just drive to Gordonton on the road to Auckland to find you?
Cheers Denise
