Pukemokemoke’s loop track closed
Pukemokemoke’s loop track to the summit is currently closed, says Friends of Pukemokemoke chairman Warwick Silvester.
“Due to heavy rain over the past two months and the enormous increase in foot traffic on the tracks we have had to close the track to all walkers.”
He said the new boardwalk has been a major boon but that extra traffic and rain have made the path dangerous and unpleasant.
“This has led to walkers bypassing the track and making new paths in the bush. We need to let the track recover as we do a lot more track maintenance.”
The lower stream track is open for anyone wanting a stroll, however.
There is also a call for help – and the group are holding a working bee this Saturday (September 16) at 1pm.
“We would welcome further help from walkers.”
Pukemokemoke bush is a private reserve at Tauhei, open to all, administered by a trust and maintained by a bunch of loyal volunteers. All help is appreciated.

Is the stream loop walk along the bottom open? We sometimes take a our preschoolers along there
I think that’s the one that’s closed, but will check and confirm, and post back here.
Hi Sylvia – Warwick says this lower stream track is still open, it is the loop track to the summit which is closed. Have clarified this in the story, but sounds like you and your preschoolers can still enjoy a walk there!
