New horizons for Chris
After 20 years at Horsham Downs Primary, office administrator Chris Savill is heading for Tauranga.
She told Stuff’s Libby Wilson that it had been great watching the school grow – from 106 when she started to today’s 355.
She started as office secretary but moved to more back-office work covering finances, payroll, property, purchasing, and being minutes secretary for the board of trustees.
“It’s been the best 20 years of my life, job-wise,” she said.
She stayed on for the school’s centenary this February and will help out for a while after her official end date of Friday.
Principal Phil Missen has worked with Savill for 20 years and said staff value her willingness to help.
“The number of times I’ve heard somebody say, oh, Chris will know.”
Support staff in general are highly valued in schools, he said, although the pay rates in the national collective didn’t necessarily reflect that.
With husband Malcolm, she will move to Tauranga where the pair will develop Classic Aviation Designs, selling kitset planes or designs.
