St Mary’s spruced up for fair
THE folk at St Mary’s in Gordonton have been working hard to get their church ready for their first-ever Christmas Fair.
Throughout the year a small dedicated group has been getting together monthly to make decorations to sell at the fair.
Last week they started decorating the beautiful heritage church which will be open to the public on Saturday 6 December, from 10am to 2pm.
Not a bit of tinsel can be found – it is mostly hand-made decorations such as pine cones, sticks and oranges. The church has three Christmas trees and metres and metres of ribbon which has been made into bows which dress garlands, trees, pews and willow wreaths.
There will be donkey rides, a petting zoo and stalls selling home-made Christmas decorations, jam, hot drinks and baking.
The church is open to view during the fair for a gold coin donation, and on Saturday 13 December, 9am-1pm.
From December 8 to 20 December, it is open to small groups by appointment, for a donation.
