One last run for Tiago
GORDONTON’S Iris Riddell has one more half marathon to complete for Tiago Pinheiro.
The Taupo Times reporter and co-founder of Number 8 Network is taking part in the 63.3km challenge to help raise funds for two-year-old Tiago, who was diagnosed with cancer early this year.
Iris first heard about his story at the Gordonton Country Market, where stall-holder Stella Sim was fund-raising for the family. Tiago was diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma in February, and has since undergone many surgical procedures.
Father Andre is from Brazil and moved to New Zealand with Jo, his Kiwi wife, a few years ago. They recently bought a house in Pukete and Jo recently gave up her work to care full-time for Tiago and his sister Ruby.
Iris says she wanted to do something to help the family and the half marathons seemed a good option.
In July she knocked off the Tauhara Trail Run with 700 other keen runners and walkers. Then in August came the Mizuno half-marathon which had the added bonus of mother Annette Taylor joining in.
It can now be reported that Taylor made it to the finish line of what was her very first half marathon. There are no photographs, sadly.
Now Iris is eyeing up the last event, the Kinloch OffRoad Challenge this Saturday (September 7).
All up, she will have completed 63.3km, running three half marathons in three months.
Many heart-felt thanks to everyone who has helped Iris support the Pinheiro family – your support has been fantastic and has helped raise $765 so far. It is not too late to make a donation:

All money will go to the Pinheiro family.
Iris you’re an inspiration to all icecream scoffing couch potatoes! Well done. And tell that wonderful mother of yours that if she ups her chicken soup/corned beef consumption she’ll whizz through the training runs … ?? x x
Ha! In search of ice cream this very minute!
OK Annette!
I’ll sponsor YOU $10 (for Tiago) if YOU take part in the next run!
In your gumboots!
(Oh, alright! You can have running shoes!!!)
Cheers
Robert
🙂
Oh no. Oh dear. Okay, well, that’s me then. Verily I shall enter the next half-marathon to support Iris. What I want to know is – who will support me? (When I fall by the road side clutching my feet.)
The gauntlet has been picked up. (Ouch, hurts to bend…)
Forsooth thou art a real trooper! I will support you at the roadside if you fall with (your choice) (a) chicken soup (b) cider (c) Jack Daniels hooch (d) Auntie Shirley’s smelling salts. Get those gumboots primed and polished, girl!
Looking great Iris!!! Well Done!
X Claudia
She’s a little gem, Claudia, and she smiled throughout!
