Chance to discuss expressway options at information day

The NZ Transport Agency is holding three public information days this week to present the recommended route and connection options for the Hamilton Section of the Waikato Expressway, Road of National Significance.

The Hamilton Section is a key piece of infrastructure for Hamilton City which will support and stimulate economic growth and development, says NZTA Waikato Expressway principal project manager Richard Young.

Each session will be run between 2pm and 7pm and the same information will be available at all venues.

– Tuesday 7 May – at the Horsham Downs Community Hall, Martin Lane – off Horsham Downs Rd.

– Wednesday 8 May – at the Hamilton Marist Rugby Club, Old Farm Rd, Hamilton East.

– Thursday 9 May – at the Tamahere Community Centre, Devine Rd, Tamahere

Mr Young says the existing designation for the Hamilton Section was notified in the Hamilton City and Waikato District Plans in 2005.

Since then the City has seen the development of a number of road projects, including the Ring Road, and significant changes to the structure plans for the Rototuna, Ruakura and Tamahere areas.

Over the last two years the NZTA’s project team have carried out detailed assessments of planning, traffic flows, the connections for Hamilton’s road network, environmental and cultural issues.

The information days will explain where changes to the designation have been made, give people the chance to ask questions and provide feedback and gain understanding of the process going forward.

“We’d like to encourage as many people as possible to attend these information days,” Mr Young says.
