Walking the world, locally

The local branch of Rural Women NZ met at Lake Kainui (Lake D) on Lake Rd, Horsham Downs last Sunday, to walk around the lake and join in on a global initiative to walk around the world.

Nationwide, the group challenged its members to walk the length of New Zealand – all 1600km of it.  They were joined members from all societies that are part of Associated Counntry Women of the World as they, in 24 hours, tried to walk around the world.

The aim was to raise funds for projects that will help rural women in developing countries step up out of poverty.

Local member Megan said every person walking was registered and the 3.16km walk will be multiplied by those completing it, to add to the New Zealand and then the worldwide total.

Have a stash of water for the walkers some “Shoe clinic” vouchers for everyone who completes the walk and lots of camaraderie guaranteed. A few spot prizes/lucky draws.
