Say hi to Federated Farmers
Federated Farmers are out and about – and might drop by in the next few days.
Field officer Pearl Hamid, accompanied by Sarah Peters, are on the road, and today were ‘working’ Woodlands Rd.
Pearl, who doubles up on communications and sales, says it’s all part of a move to increase the organisation’s profile and say hi to farmers.
“Federated Farmers is a membership-run organisation, and it’s my job to communicate what is going on; what people need to be aware of, and generally encourage new people to join.”
There are a number of issues farmers – including lifestylers – need to be aware of, such as the increase in rural theft.
“We’ve had a huge increase in theft around the country, targeting scrap metal in particular. I heard of a case north of Hamilton a few months ago where milk vat lids were stolen, as were the vat stirrers. So we’re giving people a gentle reminder to think about security and not get complacent.”
Another concern is upcoming changes to stock droving and crossing rules.
“Council is looking at getting a bylaw established, and while at the moment there is no charge for a permit, we’re worried there is provision to charge at a later stage. We’re here to lobby on farmers’ behalf.”
So keep an eye out for representatives from the organisation, and if anyone wants to talk directly with Pearl, her number is 027 475 5586.
