Grant for Te Hoe hall
Good to see in Rural Delivery (May 25) that the Te Hoe hall has received a grant of $35,000 from Transpower.
The memorial hall, on Tahuna-Ohinewai Rd, can now undergo a major spruce-up, the paper reported.
Hall committee chairman Ian Storey said that while the hall is structurally sound, it needed a facelift. “We want it to be used as much as possible. The hall is a community asset.”
No major physical work has been undertaken at the hall for at least 10 years. The Transpower contribution, from its CommunityCare Fund, will help pay for the hall’s exterior and interior painting.
Mr Storey told editor Steve Edwards that maintaining country halls these days was a challenge. “But you lose them and you lose the sense of community.”
Quotes are being sought for the painting project with work likely to begin in spring.
