Fundraiser on offer to community groups

Kartha and Tiger, from a high country property in Canterbury.

Calling all community groups or individuals wanting to raise funds – author and photographer Katherine Tozer has an idea for you.

The AgResearch weed scientist has produced a 64-page book filled with photos of New Zealand back country scenery and she is offering it to charities for fundraising. One current project is using the book to help build a community centre in Cambridge.

Tales from the Back Country features stories of farm dogs and life in the rugged back blocks, as told to Katherine by high-country shepherds, musterers, drovers and farmers.

The book has wide appeal, she says.  “It gives a snapshot of the New Zealand way of life which is fast disappearing, has photos of magnificent scenery and then there’s some wonderful dog tales.  It would make a great gift, or present to post overseas.”

Tales costs $10 (includes GST and postage) and is marketed at $25.

“Charities can keep all the profits, so that is $15 per book, for their own use.  $10 is the cost price, assuming a bulk purchase, which charities pay directly, including postage, to the printer, Print House Ltd, prior to receiving the books.”

The book is perfect bound with a soft cover with flaps and is 23cm by 23cm in size.  It has been designed and printed in New Zealand.

But wait, there’s more! The first person to send us an idea for a story (that we can then write up for the website) scores a copy of this book.
